Wellpoint, formerly called SaintA, is one of the two main agencies that subcontract with Milwaukee child welfare. Wellpoint gets paid by the government to be the corporate guardian of kids and teens who are taken from their parents or grandparents. They are financially motivated to keep kids from their parents. Wellpoint workers also try to convince parents in crisis to "temporarily" give up custody of their kids and teens, rather than helping the parents get services.

Kids are often kept separated from their parents by Wellpoint for reasons relating to poverty and homelessness, especially from people of color. Agencies like Wellpoint will many times keep children from safe, loving homes without any proof that the parent(s) abused or neglected the children. Mothers who are victims of domestic violence and people with mental health issues/learning disabilities are often targeted for unjust and illegal family separation.

Their CEO has spearheaded a quest to get even more government funds.Wellpoint is planning a "$25 million overhaul of its 18-acre campus" (Urban Milwaukee). Wellpoint can thank you, the taxpayers, for this! Meanwhile, the poor continue to suffer.

Milwaukee's CPS system is notoriously anti-Black.Wellpoint claims to be an agency that champions equity. But that only applies to its middle-class workers. Low-income Black families suffer the most because of Wellpoint's racism and greed.
